The alliance had stabilized, but Captain Elara Vance received a distress signal from a distant colony-one that had been cut off since the Swarm's attack. She ordered the Odyssey to investigate.

"Command, this is Vance. I'm heading to the colony's location."

"Copy, Vance. Proceed with caution. We've lost contact with them."

The colony was a small world, its surface scarred by battle. Debris floated in orbit, the remnants of a once-thriving settlement.

"Any survivors?" Elara asked.

"Sensors show a few life signs. They're in the underground bunkers."

She led a landing party to the surface. The bunker doors were sealed, but they managed to open them.

Inside, a group of survivors huddled together, their faces pale with fear.

"Are you from Earth?" one asked.

"Yes," Elara said. "We're here to help."

The survivors told a harrowing story-they had been attacked by a rogue faction of the Swarm, separated from the main hive.

"We thought we were forgotten," the leader said.

"You weren't," Elara replied.

She evacuated the survivors and returned to the fleet. The colony was lost, but the people were saved.

It was a small victory, but it reminded her why they fought-to protect the innocent, to rebuild what had been broken. And she would continue to do so, no matter the cost. The End.

The cemetery was quiet, the sun warm on Maya's face. She knelt before her grandfather's grave, Liam beside her, a small flag in her hands. The stone was simple, his name carved into the marble, the dates of his birth and death.

"I found him," she said. "Your friend Robert. I found where he crashed. Where he was captured. Where he died."

She placed the flag at the base of the stone, touched the cold marble.

"I met a man in France. His father hid Robert in his barn. He had a photograph. He showed it to me." She paused, her voice catching. "Robert talked about you. Until the end. He said you were the best friend he ever had."

Liam put his hand on her shoulder.

"I never understood," she continued. "Why you kept his photograph on your nightstand. Why you never talked about him. Why you stared at the horizon like you were waiting for him to come home."

She wiped her eyes, took a deep breath.

"I understand now. You carried him with you. Every day. Every night. Until the day you died."

She stood, looked at the grave, at the sky, at the world he had helped save.

"I'll never forget him. I'll tell his story. And their story. And everyone who will listen."

Liam took her hand. "Ready?"

She nodded. "Ready."

They walked away, the cemetery behind them, the future ahead. The war was long over. But its lessons would never be forgotten.

And Maya would carry them with her, always. As her grandfather had carried Robert. As they all had.
